All companies incorporated in Malaysia must have their accounts audited by an approved auditor as mandated by the Companies Act of 2016 with exception to those companies which have fulfilled the following criteria that can be exempted from audit:
- A dormant or an inactive company – which means the company has not commenced its principal business activities since its inception or the company has ceased its operations during the financial year under review.
- Companies with zero-revenue – which means these companies do not generate any revenue during the financial year under review, as well as in the immediate past two consecutive financial years. In addition, the companies’ total assets do not exceed RM300,000 in the financial year under review and the immediate past two consecutive financial years; and
- Companies which qualified the threshold – these are companies that reported revenue with an amount that does not exceed RM100,000 during the current financial year under review as well as the immediate past two financial years. Secondly, its total assets do not exceed RM300,000 in the current financial year under review and the immediate past two financial years, and it ended the current financial year and the immediate past two financial years with no more than five employees.
